Week 1- Cast Off and Antarctica
Students are demonstrating competency by counting money for specific items in their class store. The students are finding the value of coins and bills, use\ing appropriate labeling, and solving real-world money problems.
Ever seen the movie "Happy Feet"? These students engineered their own tap shoes to compete with the Happy Feet Challenge. They enjoyed ice cream sundaes donated from Dairy Queen as they tapped their way out of Antarctica.
Students couldn't wait to showcase the science of sound by making kazoos and water xylophones.
During our first week, rising 3rd graders received the passports and cruise tickets and set sail for Antarctica. Students participated in many fun activities, including creating their own origami cruise ship, creating their own penguin habitat diorama, and coding the Ozobot "penguin" to travel through the habitat.
Mrs. Cooper's class has been up and moving. They are learning all about the different continents while decorating their room with amazing artifacts created based ofonf the country of the day. Mrs. Cooper has used books, hand-on activities, maps, and posters to help educate her students.
Mrs. Lacksen's class has made their way through Antarctica and Asia. They learned about the insulating properties blubber has for penguins, and created beautiful jewelry boxes based on Asian artifacts and designs.
