People crowded in the Great American Ball Park on April 7 for the Red's opening day to show their Cincinnati pride, and love for baseball. The Red's do a series of fun events for opening day that get their fans excited and engaged for the upcoming season. One of the big events is watching the famous person who is selected to throw the first pitch. This year it was famous athlete Joe Burrow, the football player who led the Bengals to the Super Bowl this year. Although all of the festivities of being at the game are fun, here are some recipes to cook up and enjoy the season full of games at home to show Cincinnati pride. Go Reds!
Make your own Skyline Chili:
Skyline Chili has been the Red's official chili for over seventy years, and is a well known restaurant for people who live in Cincinnati . This is a recipe to replicate the delicious chili at home while watching the Red's games this season.
Ingredients:
2 pounds of ground beef
2 yellow onions, finely chopped
15 ounces of tomato sauce
2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce
4 cloves of garlic
1/2 ounce of unsweetened chocolate
5 whole cloves
5 whole allspice berries
1 bay leaf
1 yellow onion diced
2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
1 pound of spaghetti cooked
Instructions:
Cook your ground beef in a skillet on medium heat until browned.
Add in onions, tomato sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, chocolate, chili powder, salt, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, cloves, allspice berries, and bay leaf and mix together well.
Lower the heat to a simmer and cook for two hours, stirring occasionally. Add water if it gets too dry.
Put over spaghetti and enjoy!
Homemade Soft Pretzels:
Ingredients:
5 1/2 cups of water
1 tbsp of honey
4 1/2 cups of bread flower
2 tbsp of salt
1 packet of instant yeast
3/4 tsp of salt
1/4 cup & 1 tbsp of butter
1/3 cups of baking soda
Instructions:
Combine warm water, honey, and salt into a bowl
Add four cups of bread flower and instant yeast to mixture. Turn mixer on low speed until fully mixed.
Let mixture rest for an hour covered in plastic wrap at room temp.
Pre-heat oven to 400 F
Use flower to help shape pretzels to desired shape.
Put pretzels into a water bath with hot water and baking soda for 30 seconds.
Bake your pretzels for 15 minutes and then add salt and butter.
