Lacrosse has been a popular sport for years. Badin is one of the few schools in the area that happens to not have a lacrosse team. That doesn't stop some Badin students from finding a way to enjoy the sport. Senior Ryan Joesting, Rudy Joesting, and Nolan Thomas all play for Fairfield’s lacrosse team and Carson Cheek plays for Lakota West’s team.
“I have been playing for seven years and love the sport. The team bonding aspect is great,” Ryan Joesting said.
Ryan’s teammates Rudy, who has played for five years, and Nolan, who has played for two years, share similar feelings about the sport.
“One of my favorite parts about the sport is the team bonding. We have team taco Tuesday every week at Tortilla Garcillia for dollar tacos,” Rudy Joesting said.
For those who don’t know lacrosse is a team sport played with a stick, ball, and goal. It actually is the oldest sport in North America with its roots in Canada in the 1600s. The sport has players using a small net on the end of their sticks to hold and pass the ball between themselves. The goal is to score goals in the nets at the opposing ends of the field.
“My Favorite memory from lacrosse was scoring the tie-breaking goal in overtime against Kettering Fairmont the other week, I don’t think we have ever celebrated as much as we did that day,” Ryan Joesting said.
Badin doesn’t have a lacrosse team due to the lack of equipment and lack of a place to practice. There is hope however that with the new facility plans for an athletic complex Badin may be open to adding a new sport if there is enough student interest.
“I really wish Badin had a lacrosse team,” said Thomas. “I would get to play with Carson and it would be so much fun to see the school rally behind a lacrosse team.”
Only time will tell if Badin will ever see a lacrosse team playing representing the green and white colors but there is a decent chance we might.
