With the colder weather approaching, many fall sports seasons are coming to an end. Cross Country is one of the few sports still moving forward with their season however. Although Varsity is the only part of the team still moving on, the JV has been rooting them on every step of the way. Although sad his seasons over Senior Kaiden Thomas reminisces on his past season.
“I’m so glad I got to spend my senior season leading this team, over the last 3 years my coaches and teammates have done so much for me and I’m glad to have had such great underclassmen to celebrate my last season with,” Thomas said
With fear of COVID-19 on the decline cross country managed to restart many of their traditions they celebrated prior.
“Two of my favorite events we got back this year were the retreat to Gatlinburg as well as jersey night at Leos,” Thomas said.
With the team activities returning to normalcy the team successes were also at a high. Many members of the team improved and found their stride this year with PRs and victories over many other teams.
“We had ups and downs, but we had several solid meets where most of the team PR’d. I always felt like people were improving and we had a large amount of underclassmen improve at astonishing rates,” Thomas said.
The JV members of the team are sending all their luck and speed to Varsity as they move on to Regionals. The Varsity team has high hopes and are confident in what they can do the rest of this year. Senior Kylie Spade is one of the Varsity girls ready to take on Regionals
“The girls team is excited and ready for Regionals. The coaches like to remind us that it's doing the little things right that can affect these big races. If we all run really well there is a very small chance that we could go to state. Even if it is unlikely, that chance is what is motivating me to do everything that I can to make it my best race, and I think many of the other senior girls feel the same way since it could be our last race.”
