The Battle to be the 2021 Powderpuff Champs

At 6 pm on October 21, the Junior class went against the Sophomores in flag football. The energy was high and both classes were ready after not being able to play last year, due to Covid-19.
Junior Coach Diego Decello said, “We went out with the mindset that we were going to win, without a doubt in our mind.”
The Juniors mindset seemed to be true as the game ended with them having 6 and the Sophomores with 0, with Rachel Nusky as the scorer.
Sophomore Coach Nate Ostendorf said, “We played a good game. The Juniors had some better athletes and more practice time.”
Matt Shamp, one of the faculty referees, claimed that this game had the best sportsmanship in years.
It was now time for Juniors vs Seniors. The score was tied 6-6, with Rachel Nusky and Senior Mahya Lindesmith as the scorers.
In overtime, Junior Teagan Hickey got the extra point, winning it for the Juniors.
"It was exciting for our class to win after not getting a chance last year." Hickey said.
“We tried to have a few practices, but a lot of the girls couldn't make it. We had to put a lot of plays together before and during the game which was difficult, but worked pretty well for the time we had. We made several adjustments during the game, and called plays very well,” Senior Ely Emmons said.
“We were aggressive and we held the defense well. We had a lot of good runs with our running backs, due to the plays the coaches made. We also gained many yards from them as well,” Rachel Nusky said.
“I thought the seniors came in great and battled all the way to the end,” Senior Sydney Feenstra said. “We didn’t let up or make it easy. We did a great job throwing the ball and trying out new plays. We tried our best to stop the Juniors running backs from gaining a lot of ground. I believe our team did a great job working together to stop the offense. Sad loss in overtime, but strong motivation to come for Spirit Olympics!”
Junior Coach Patrick Ray said, “The juniors did well learning on the spot. We adapted to what other teams did well. We figured out a couple of basic plays on offense and they worked pretty well. We're doing the same thing next year.”
The Juniors played the faculty after the seniors. There was a dance break and Shamp claims, “We discovered a new area- Thompson Island (referring to faculty member, Sara Thompson).” This game was very eventful, but unfortunate for Sarah Daniels, a faculty member, when she face planted while running with the football.
Gina Helms, the Campus Ministry Director said, “I think it's always a good night. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate so it wasn't really successful as a Campus Ministry fundraiser, but it turned out to be a beautiful night and sure was successful as a fun time!”
