Since the first time I met Spencer Fiehrer, I never thought I would see him in such a horrible state, especially playing a sport together, but my worst fears came to reality on the night of September 24, 2021.
When Fiehrer and I took the field on that Friday night, it just felt like another game. The first play on offense was a run up the middle for a minimal gain, as i started back to the huddle I heard a fainted scream and call for help, it was Spencer. At the time I didn't realize what had truly happened until I looked over and saw Spencer on the ground.
Fiehrer had been rolled over on by defensive tackle from Carroll. In the moment I was praying for just a sprain or something along the lines, But that wasn't logical. Fiehrer was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a closed compound fracture.
“I felt the pain initially and then I looked down and saw my leg. Right after I saw my leg for the first time I blacked out,” Fiehrer said.
Along with the pain of a traumatic injury like his comes the emotions which could sometimes be the hardest to overcome.
“I was really upset about the whole thing while at the hospital but when I realized I would be back for baseball It got a little better,” Fiehrer said.
“As of right now I'm on track to be back by baseball season and plan on having a monster year.”
