There’s a new club at Badin. DIG (Diversity, Inclusion and Growth) was created to be a safe space for all of the student body.
“We want Badin to be better versed in issues of diversity and race, and because we want all members of our student body to feel united,” Service Coordinator Megan Halverson said.
A student leadership team is working to determine specific issues that DIG will address. The student leaders are Megan Covey, Todd Hayes, Jefrey Luna-Mata, Marcia Reyes, Trinity Vivians and Sophia Williams.
“I hope the outcome of DIG is a better Badin community that will slowly have an impact on the greater community,” senior Jefrey Luna-Mata said. “I believe DIG will have a number of obstacles but one main one is definitely getting people to be open to seeing problems that face people in our community,”
“There will definitely be some people that think it is unnecessary, however if they give us some of their time, they will see that they have a lot to learn so that's the growth part of DIG but allowing everyone to be a part of this is the I for Inclusion,” junior Megan Covey said.
DIG is open to anyone that is interested and wanting to learn.
“It will involve group activities, speakers and field trips,” Halverson said. “We will be starting by creating a safe space for people to share experiences and to learn about the different cultures represented in Badin's student body.”
The first meeting of DIG will be after the new year.
