TEAMS, the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science competition, has had teams from Badin compete in the competition for years. Over the years they have had varied success. This year one of Badin’s competing teams successfully placed 7th in the state as well as somewhere in the top 25 in the nation. This is a major achievement for Badin and the team themselves and is one they are very proud of.
“I can’t believe that our team made it in the top 25 in the nation. This is a major accomplishment for us and Badin,” said Kaiden Thomas, one of the competitors.
This placement has given the Badin team the opportunity to compete in Dallas the last week of June for national status. This will stick the top 25 teams against each other where they will compete against one another in tests of engineering and mathematics.
“As a team we write an essay in advance and turn it in. Then on completion day we take a multiple choice test over physics and math and then participate in a build project as a team,” Thomas said.
The build project consisted of constructing a marble roller coaster with as little material as possible that would last as close to 30 seconds as they could get it. This is demonstrated in the video submission they filmed and turned in of their project.
The next step for the Badin team will be the national competition June 27 through 30. They will then compete for national placement. All of Badin will be cheering them on as they hopefully advance through the competition to win.
