National Merit Scholar Semifinalist isn’t a title handed out lightly. For a student to earn this title they must score within the top 1% of all juniors who take the PSAT. Badin High School is lucky enough to say they have educated one of these Semi-finalists: Case Trokhan.
Out of about 2,000,000 juniors who took the PSAT only a mere 16,000 can claim the title of National Merit Scholar Semifinalist. Case has achieved a very prestigious award.
“I feel like this is the culmination of years of hard work, I am the first one in three years to receive this honor from Badin,” said Trokhan
Case isn’t finished just yet as she is still in the running for finalist. Students have to fill out a separate application to advance from semifinalist to finalist. The results of this application should be announced around February.
“If I become a finalist, I get the opportunity to apply for certain scholarships such as one at the University of Alabama where I can get a full ride, free room and board, books, and a 14,000$ stipend,” said Trokhan
The National Merit awards are a very useful achievement as well. This is a very distinguished honor that not everyone can say they have earned. Case has taken advantage of this award on her college forms.
“It has made college applications easier because it's given me a distinct achievement to list as well as people cheering for me when I enter any room,” said Trokhan
We are all following Case’s progress very closely and are rooting for her to advance to Finalist, but until then, congratulations Senior Case Trokhan on this outstanding achievement.
