Technology has a major impact on lives today. It creates an easier access to communication, provides ways to find information, and can save time. Schools especially use technology in just about every class. Covid-19 especially had an impact on technology use in schools. With the internet being the only way to communicate, participate in zoom meetings, and carry out assignments, being without the internet can cause unwanted interruptions in our daily lives at school.
Here at Badin, we experienced some setbacks for a few days. Having no internet made each student and teachers day different than it would normally be. Even though having no Wi-Fi is doable, it created a hold up on assignments, learning, and a change in agendas.
Students became more aware of how effective technology is during school days. Junior Annie Schneider faced delays in finishing up her school work for the end of the year and classes falling behind.
“The Wi-Fi being down for 2 days was a huge inconvenience. I had many assignments that had to be turned in via google classroom. This resulted in the due dates being pushed back, causing the class to fall behind, and now we are cramming in many assignments in the last week of school. The Wi-Fi being down is obviously a do-able situation, but at a certain point, it seemed almost useless for us to be in the building, as I had close to 8 periods of study hall” Schneider said.
Junior Ava Franchini also faced setbacks in her school days and recognized how much more efficient the use of laptops and the internet are during the school day.
“When the Wi-Fi was down I didn't realize how much we all relied on our laptops/technology. whether it was to email friends, play games, or actually do assignments. After the second day I got more used to it but I think we all like it better when we have that technology at our fingertips, and that it’s just more convenient” Franchini said.
