“Good Morning Wonderful People” is a phrase you hear a lot here at Badin from the Service Coordinator, Megan Halverson. Halverson says she's excited and feels very encouraged for the year.
Some of her goals include reaching out to the sophomores to encourage more involvement and to get more people involved in doing service regularly.
“Freshman are very present at service events this year and I am super excited,” Halverson says. “Juniors and Seniors are definitely present as well!”
Halverson blames the attendance of the sophomores on Covid-19 because it definitely affected how service played out their freshman year.
When it comes to attendance, Service at School has had great turnouts. Halverson believes this is because of the very casual and fun environment.
Service trips also seem to be very well liked based on the amount of kids that attend them.
“My favorite service events are definitely the summer and solidarity trips. They give you a chance to build connections with each other and it allows you to see the world in a different way. It’s my favorite part of my job,” Mrs. Halverson said, reminiscing about her past trips.
With the hope that students will participate in service events, like the summer and solidarity trips, Halverson says “Badin students should do service because it allows them to be more empathic, learn about the world, it is an important part of growing up and you learn about yourself and what you are passionate about.”
Mrs. Halverson also claims that service has helped many alumni choose their college major.
The new students at Badin, the freshmen, were introduced to service and what we do at Badin, the week of September 20.
“Freshman Awareness Week went perfectly. Freshmen asked great questions and sparked some great conversations. I can already tell this class will be very involved based on the conversations during the week and also their attendance,” Halverson said.
“Service has gotten off to a great start,” Halverson said.
