At Badin, all Juniors are required to form a relationship with a nonprofit organization. They must complete 20 hours at the organization.
Seniors then design a service project about their organization sharing their experience at the nonprofit. They take action to help benefit them in whatever they may need.
This year, we are trying something new to share with more people the experiences and actions taken to help them.
Seniors present their projects to faculty and staff, parents and community members.
Because all of their experiences are shared, the attendees at the Stang Symposium will become more aware of social justice issues in our community.
Public Speaking is nerve wracking especially in front of your peers.
A lot of students anticipate their presentation to go worse than it does.
“I presented my project to the students/faculty on Wednesday, and I was super nervous,” senior Elizabeth Kreimer said. “I felt like I was going to forget everything I wanted to say. However, that wasn't the case at all. I remembered everything I wanted to say, and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I was very proud of how my group presented.”
Many students attended practice presentations during Block days, and got a preview for their own projects.
Practicing their presentations in front of students, specifically juniors, will only benefit the students that watched them because the roles for their senior year will be similar.
“I think that the presentations allowed me to gather my thoughts for what I want to do for my project next year and the amount of work you have to put into it,” junior Ainsley Brandabur said.
Students became more aware of the impact we can have on our community regardless of how small the act may seem.
The Stang Symposium will further spread ways we can help and lead to bettering the world.
The event will be held in classrooms at Badin on March 1 from 7:00- to 8:30 pm.
