In the past, Block Days included 4 periods and Flex Bell. Flex Bell is a time after the first two periods with your homeroom that can include movies, Just Dance, hacky sack, music, games, food or a study hall.
On January 12 and 13, to try something new, we had an hour delay instead of Flex and students had a lot to say. Seventy percent of students like Flex Bell, 23 percent don't have a preference, and 8 percent do not enjoy Flex.
A majority of students feel they got closer with their homerooms because of Flex Bell. Each homeroom is separated by gender and has all 4 grade levels.
More than half of students would rather have a Flex Bell than an hour delay. However, 82 percent of students were excited to be able to sleep in, regardless of their thoughts on Flex Bell.
Seniors Cameron Wright and Haley Drott would like for Wednesday to have a Flex Bell and Thursday to have an hour delay.
Junior Josette Grabel would rather leave school early.
Eric Cole, who teaches psychology and French, said, “Having Flex Bell breaks up block day nicely, builds good rapport and allows freshmen to feel more comfortable at Badin.”
Katie Maciulewicz, who teaches English and Journalism, said, “If flex was more organized, the time would be better spent.”
Some teachers were not getting a break/plan period which was one of the problems with Flex.
The question we all want to know: What will be the new norm for block days in the future?
