The task of applying to college can seem like a burden to many seniors as they try to balance school work and extracurricular activities at the same time. However, the application process is the beginning to the end of the seniors high school career, and it is leaving many with mixed emotions.
Senior Alyssa Roach explains what it is like to be a senior coming to the realization that adulthood and going off to college is such a short time away. Roach plans to go to be an obstetrician or a NICU nurse, a choice that has a lot to do with her classes here at Badin.
“In physio we are learning about the female reproductive system, and I really thought it was interesting to learn about. I thought if I expanded about learning about the baby part then that would be fun,” Roach said.
Although Roach is passionate about the career path she has chosen, she is still nervous about the application process, a common emotion among the seniors when it comes to applying.
“I am very nervy, and I feel like I have a lot more to do. I plan to have everything done by Wednesday, but I definitely have a lot to do,” Roach said.
The counselors play a vital role in helping seniors through this difficult time and it is no surprise that Roach has received excellent help from her counselor, Mr. Treadway.
“I emailed Mr. Treadway asking if I could go into his office one day, and then he saw me in the hallway and made sure to ask when I wanted to come in. When I came in he answered all of my questions,” Roach said.
Putting the stressful parts aside, there are exciting parts about starting a new chapter in life. Roach reflects on what she is most excited about when thinking about what it will be like going off to college and the new opportunities that will be opened up for her.
“I am excited to make new friends and experience the social life. I am also excited to find new things that I find interesting in the classroom,” Roach said.
With only 213 days left of senior year until the Class of 2022 graduates on May 27, applying to college is the first milestone in what will be an exciting final year.
