Patrick Coyne, a 2011 Badin High School graduate, found his calling in football and helping people improve their lives.
Coyne ranked 19 as dual-threat quarterbacks in the class of 2011 nationwide committed to the University of Cincinnati in 2010 after leading the Rams to a 7-4 record and going to the Ohio Division V playoffs.
Coyne transferred to Badin from Lasalle after his sophomore year and led the Rams as quarterback under former head coach Bill Tenore. Coyne threw for 1,642 yards and 9 touchdowns during his first season at Badin, which led to a share of the GCL Coed title.
Coyne suffered a broken collarbone injury during his senior season opener, keeping him out for the season.
Coyne was involved at Badin with football but never really got involved with extra curriculars, which he regrets.
“I did football, track which was coached by Mr. Mears, and the fishing club led by Mr. Z,” Coyne said.
Badin has endured lots of changes since Pat left the halls of Badin but he found his passion in the weight room at Badin.
“When I was at Badin we didn’t have a strength coach but I always had a passion for it and I started learning more about the methods behind it and helping other people get stronger and better,” Coyne said.
When Coyne turned 21, he started a company called Savage Fitness with his close friend Javon Harrison. Savage Fitness was located on Dixie Highway and was the first time Coyne saw his passion lived out in real life.
“Working for myself was my only option because of how I operate. It was the only way I could survive because I couldn’t work for anyone else,” Coyne said.
He started his second company Black Sheep Performance in 2018. Black Sheep Performance is a training gym for all types of athletes. Black Sheep has put Coyne and his co-workers on the map.
The name Black Sheep means going against the grain and being different from the rest of society.
“The name Black Sheep comes from being bullied badly in high school and grade school because of my mindset,” Coyne said.
Coyne has always chased his dreams and followed his passion of helping others be better in every part of their lives.
Black Sheep trains middle school, high school, college, and professional athletes. The company also partnered with Beacon Orthopedics in March 2021 to help athletes recovering for injuries get back doing what they love quicker.
Black Sheep started in a barn and moved into a warehouse in Blue Ash, Ohio in September 2020. The new gym included 34 yards of turf, treadmills, battle ropes, sleds.
and keiser machines and is truly one of the best gyms for athletes in the Cincinnati area. Coyne, however, is not satisfied and wants to keep improving.
“The one thing I want is a recovery room. I want a room where my athletes can recover mentally and physically,” Coyne said.
Black Sheep and Pat Coyne have for sure affected Badin athletics as well by training Logan Neu, Ian Sabourin, Jayden Carter, Connor Young and Pate Goldberg just to name a few. They have all loved their time in the gym at Black Sheep and can’t wait to get back into the gym with them as soon as possible.
“Pat has really helped me get to my full potential in my athletic career as well as everyday life,” Neu said.
