Independent investigators believe they've uncovered the identity of the Zodiac Killer as Gary Francis Poste. The independent investigators, known as The Case Breakers, include 40 well-equipped members who volunteer to help with unsolved cases.

In 1968 and 1969 there were a string of killings in Southern California by a serial killer nicknamed themself the Zodiac Killer because of a series of letters with ciphers that were said to reveal their identity.

There were a total of four ciphers. Cipher Z408 was solved by a high school teacher and his wife after it was published. Cipher Z340 was cracked December, 2020. Ciphers Z13 and Z32 have yet to be solved.

“I like killing people because it is so much fun - it is more fun than killing wild game in the forest because man is the most dangerous animal of all - to kill something gives me the most thrilling experience - it is even better than getting your rocks off with a girl - the best part of it is that when I die I will be reborn in paradise and all the (lone or stray people) I have killed will become my slaves - I will not give you my name because you will try to slow down or stop my collecting of slaves for my afterlife,” Cipher Z408 said.

Gary Francis Poste, who died in 2018, was an Air Force veteran. After leaving the military he worked as a painter of primarily houses. Poste’s friend who went backpacking with him said that he would murder animals “indiscriminately”, which relates to when the cipher said “more fun than killing wild game in the forest because man is the most dangerous animal of all”.

“I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING LOTS OF FUN IN TRYING TO CATCH ME THAT WASNT ME ON THE TV SHOW WHICH BRINGS UP A POINT ABOUT ME I AM NOT AFRAID OF THE GAS CHAMBER BECAUSE IT WILL SEND ME TO PARADICE ALL THE SOONER BECAUSE I NOW HAVE ENOUGH SLAVES TO WORK FOR ME WHERE EVERYONE ELSE HAS NOTHING WHEN THEY REACH PARADICE SO THEY ARE AFRAID OF DEATH I AM NOT AFRAID BECAUSE I KNOW THAT MY NEW LIFE IS LIFE WILL BE AN EASY ONE IN PARADICE DEATH,” Cipher Z340 said.

The line “that wasnt me on the tv show” is considered the response to a person who had called the Bay Area television show claiming to be the Zodiac Killer.

At one of the Zodiac Killers crime scenes a Timex wristwatch was found that is believed to have come from a military base. Poste was being treated for a gun-related injury 15 minutes away at an Air Force base.

Poste used to babysit a girl, and he taught her how to shoot guns and take her to the woods every time they saw each other. The girl noticed the violence Poste inflicted on his wife. In 2016, he was even arrested for domestic violence, but his dementia kept him from standing trial.

The biggest piece of evidence that points to the Zodiac Killer being Poste are the scars on their foreheads. Poste’s scars match the police’s sketch almost exactly.

Even with this evidence, and more, the “Investigation into the Zodiac Killer remains open and unsolved,” said San Francisco FBI official. Law enforcement remains hesitant to accept this as the ending of a 53 year old investigation, but it is agreed that this is the closest this case has been to being solved.
