The cast and crew of Alice in Wonderland’s Rock n’ Roll Adventure has worked tirelessly for months and they’re finally hitting the stage Thursday, May 21.
Alice in Wonderland is a story about a little girl, who’s seven and a half years old exactly, that falls down a rabbit hole into the strange world of Wonderland. In this production, junior Hailey Lipp plays Alice.
“The thing I love the most about Alice is that she is never afraid to be herself and is willing to always learn from others and her mistakes. I relate to her by keeping an open mind. Also, I love being able to express myself and be myself,” Lipp said. “ It is an outstanding accomplishment. At the beginning of freshman year, I set a goal for myself to receive the lead in a show at Badin. Now that the goal has been reached, I can't wait to push myself more to succeed in achieving all goals I set for myself, especially musically inclined goals.”
On her journey, Alice meets with the infamous White Rabbit, Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, March Hare, Red Queen, and a number of other characters. In meeting with the Caterpillar who is played by junior Ava Wesner, Alice learns that it’s best to keep your temper if you want to keep your head.
“To get into character, I take my internalized anger at others and display it for everyone. Then I do some terrible yoga poses and breathe deep. It works every time,” Wesner said. “I only relate to the caterpillar in the sense that people talk about my height a lot. I’m technically the shortest in the musical, but the tallest on stage. Opposites attract!”
While the Caterpillar is zen and searching for inner peace, the Queen of Hearts is murdering cards as she pleases. There’s a rumor that the queen is quite lovely, but really she is a cheater at croquet and is always ready to behead disloyal subjects.
“To get into character, I yell at my little brother,” junior Olivia Blanton said as she prepared to play the Red Queen. “I am melodramatic just like the Red Queen, except I don’t execute anybody.”
The work of the cast is very important, but it would be nothing without the help of the stage crew. They do curtains, spotlights, move props, help with costume changes, and basically do crowd control backstage. They work under the guide of Mrs. Cline. She’s the director, costume designer, choreographer, and sound board.
“To see the actors understand their role more fully and to see their reactions as new set pieces or costumes get added. And to watch them enjoy performing. There really is a lot that I enjoy about my work,” Cline said.
You can see the full cast and crew on Thursday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m, Friday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m, Saturday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m, and Sunday, May 24 at 2:30 0 p.m.
“Come see the show, it will be awesome," Blanton said.
