Introduction to costume is a new class at Badin this year.
The class is taught by Mrs. Cline. She teaches theater, stagecraft, and public speaking as well. Students, like junior Eva Groh, are loving their experiences in the class.
Q: What do you do in intro to costume?
A: “We make costumes and learn how to sew,” Groh said.
Q: What sewing techniques do you use?
A: “We've learned both hand sewing and machines, but we mostly use machines,” Groh said.
Q: What have you made so far?
A: “Nothing yet but we have many projects that are almost done,” Groh said.
Q: Where is the class?
A: “It’s not like a normal classroom is. It is in the costume shop, at the front of Badin,” Groh said.
Junior Emily Snellgrove enjoys the class too.
Q: What’s your favorite part about the class?
A: “I get to see Mrs. Cline and my friends,” Snellgrove said.
Q: Do you have advice for future costume students?
A: “Have fun and don’t sew your finger,” Snellgrove said.
Q: What does a normal day look like?
A: “It depends on what we need to do for the show(A Christmas Carol); it varies every day,” Snellgrove said.
Introduction to costume is junior Catherine Babb’s favorite class.
Q: What are important things you learned in the class?
A: “I learned how to sew a dress and sew a hidden hem,” Babb said.
Q: What made you decide to take this class?
A: “Costuming looked fun to do,” Babb said.
Q: How do you think this class will benefit you in the future?
A: “I can fix clothes and sew new clothes,” Babb said.
The students have sewn many costumes that will be displayed in the 2021-2022 play “A Christmas Carol”. You can see the costumes in action from Nov. 18-20 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
