As students and staff have been notified that midterm exams are picking back up, Alyssa Roach gives insight on what it’s like to be a senior who is approaching the end of the 1st semester.
“I’m stressed about midterms coming up, along with balancing work, school, and maintaining a social life,” Roach said.
Midterms and tests are things that every student dreads, but Roach finds a way to overcome and succeed.
“Math class has gotten easier for me. Each time we have a test I don’t understand the material, but I still end up understanding by test time,” Roach said.
Looking back from freshman year to present, Roach explains how she struggled with finding friends and letting her true personality shine.
“My hardest year in high school was freshman year. It was hard for me to come out of my shell and make friends. I’m an outgoing person so being so quiet and introverted freshman year was a challenge for me,” Roach said.
Many students pick favorite teachers and staff members while transitioning from grade to grade and Roach explains how Mrs. DeRosa has helped her to be more confident and her course selection has led her to find her future career.
“Mrs. Derosa is easily my favorite teacher at Badin. I had her my junior and senior year for physiology. Physio II is my favorite class because I’ve enjoyed everything we’ve learned so far. She’s helped me decide that I wanted to go into nursing. I can tell she truly cares about her students,” Roach said.
With favorite courses also comes the challenging ones that many students may dread. Roach gives insight on her least favorite class this year.
“Gym is my least favorite because of the one freshman in the class,” Roach said.
There are many exciting things coming up in the school year and Roach shares the event that she is most looking forward to.
“I’m excited to know if I got into UC. If I know I got in I can stop worrying and focus more on future plans,” Roach said.
Since the college application deadline has passed, many students have already gotten their acceptance letters, Roach shares her hopes for college and her future.
“My top choice for college is to go to UC college of Nursing. I’m going to live on campus and get a job down there,” Roach said.
Although the school year has had many obstacles, seniors should focus on the relationships and memories that they’ve made during their high school years because they will last a lifetime.
