Insight into hard work of Student Council members.
Student Council plays a pivotal role in organizing and planning many school events. Student council moderator Erin Keating takes pride in the work she and the student council members do for the school.
Being Student Council moderator is a huge responsibility, and Keating explains how she took over this important role.
“I started as a co-moderator when I first got my teaching job at Badin. At that time, Collins (who used to be a Science teacher) was the moderator and asked if I'd like to help. I have now been in charge of Student Council for 6 years,” Keating said.
In her six years of being the moderator of Student Council she has had the opportunity to plan many school events, and she reflects on her favorite one.
“I think my favorite event each year is Spirit Olympics. I love when our entire school is together and having fun. Being in charge of all of these large events is stressful but it's all worth it when I see my students' smiling faces!” Keating said.
Student Council is behind the scenes in the planning of many school events enjoyed by the students. Keating gives an inside look at the many tasks Student Council must come together to accomplish.
“We plan social events for the entire school - ie: Back to School Dance, Homecoming, Spirit Week. We also have two service projects each year that benefit our greater Hamilton community - Canned Food Drive and Adopt A Family,” Keating said.
Many students must come together to help plan and organize these events by using teamwork and problem solving skills. Senior Liz Feltner believes that being a part of the Student Council has helped to prepare her for college and her career.
“It has allowed me to feel comfortable speaking to my superiors and also public speaking in general. It also keeps me organized and in touch with my peers,” Feltner said.
It is evident that one of these skills being taught through Student Council is leadership. Feltner explains that this is one of the reasons she wanted to be in the student council in the first place.
“I felt that I could be a positive leader and be a good representative for our class,” Feltner said.
Every student has been able to experience the events that the Student Council has put lots of time and dedication into, and many social school events wouldn't be the same without their hard work.
