What makes an app so popular and how does it become so popular? Simple actually, it all happens from word of mouth to other apps. In an article done by Citrusbits they wrote ``The promotion happens either through social media or word-of-mouth.”
They continued writing “it does play [sic] a big role in gaining the popularity for the apps. The reason for this popularity seems to be the momentum building through external sources which result in the internal growth of the mobile app in the app stores.”
With that information we took to the students at Badin asking what popular apps they have and why. Around 74% of students who filled out the survey said they used Snap Chat and 64% said they used Tik Tok. Most said they used Tik Tok as a distraction from their daily lives or a way to cheer themselves up.
As for Snapchat it was a popular form of communication for many of the users. Out of most of the voters they said they used this app as their main form of communication with friends and family. Most said it was easier to share their posts with others on the app as well.
However the most used app was Tik Tok. Freshman Jordan VonBargen said, “It’s pretty addicting once you get on it you don’t want to stop scrolling.” Others who used the app had similar reasoning.
“The app is very addictive, I can watch it for hours and not realize it,” said senior Jonathan Polido.
“You never know what the next video will be,” Freshman Christopher Debbane said.
To say the least, Tik Tok is extremely addictive according to the responses about the app. The app came popular after its release in 2016 it became more popular however during quarantine. Popular enough other social media platforms started having similar add ons. Instagram started reels and Snap chat had snapchat highlights. In the end the most popular app is SnapChat while the most used is Tik Tok.
