Student Athlete of the Month: Alex Delong

Senior Alex Delong has been dominating the competition during this Rams football season.

The star running back made history by rushing 233 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the Sept. 13 game against Edgewood. With Delong catching the attention of everyone involved in Butler County sports, we decided to catch up with the Badin senior to find out what makes the man who he is.

Alex grew up in Edgewood schools before making the leap of becoming a Ram. The young athlete began playing football in the second grade. Delong was inspired to come to Badin after attending a Shadow Day.

After becoming a Ram, Alex became very involved in the Badin community. Delong joined the football team, basketball team, and baseball team. Once on the team, he quickly began making connections with his cheerful personality.

“My favorite part about playing football is winning with my team,” Delong said, “My team keeps me motivated. I don’t want to let them down because of how hard everyone works.”

Alex was a perfect addition to the team, and now everyone loves having him around. Delong’s bond with his teammates is unbreakable.

“He’s hardworking and motivates everyone to do their best,” teammate Emari Smiley said. “Delong is a good teammate who we can always rely on.”

When asked if he had any pre-game rituals Delong noted, “I pull into Badin listening to ‘We Ready’ by Archie Eversole.” This song gives the running back the energy he needs to bring home a win for the Rams.

Alex puts a lot of effort into the game, and the more the star running back gives, the more he receives.

“Playing football at Badin has taught me to be disciplined in everything I do and how to face adversity,” Delong said, reflecting on the impact football has had on him.

As his senior year begins, he is acting as class president and football team captain. Although the football season will soon come to a close, Alex will always remember the impact that Badin football has had on him.

“I never want to take a game for granted,” Delong said, “This season is going by so fast and I don’t want it to end. I will always remember Badin football.”
