Badin ballers hoop for cash

Basketball is a sport that requires speed, athleticism and awareness. Especially in tournaments that consist of multiple games and long hours. Each game could last as long as 30 minutes, and requires awareness to be successful.

Avery Brossart created this tournament after playing a quick normal game of 2 v 2 basketball, and had help from friends to complete their idea. Each game in the first round was 15 points by twos and threes, and the second round and on was 21 in twos and threes. Overall, this tournament attracted many players from all different sports, each one hoping to take home the money prize.

“Around 32 played in the tournament but there were around 10 who came to watch and 8 who wanted to come but couldn't,” says Brossart, “ and there was 136 dollars raised but we plan to raise more in the future and donate lots to charity from these tournaments.”

Ian Sabourin, co creator of the tournament, played with Pate Goldberg, a freshman. They made it to the second round where they were knocked out by Logan Hargis and Aj Enginger.

“I helped with this event by organizing the whole event,” said Sabourin.

After many blocks, dunks, shots, misses, and games, the finals were set: Bobby Young and Matthew Rings V. Logan Hargis and Aj Enginger.

“Our team OVERALL was the biggest and we carefully scouted each team to figure out their playing strategy,” says Rings.

The final game consisted of 4 players, who all knew how to play basketball with astounding speed and athleticism. The game came down to the wire, but after a well played game Bobby and Matthew came out victorious splitting $136 evenly.

In the end it was a day filled with laughter and competition as the players battled on the court for the money. The next tournament will be soon, so stay tuned for the next chance of making it rich on the court.
