On Monday, September 23 the Girls’ Golf team traveled to the Hamilton Elks Golf Course for the Division II Sectional Tournament. The girls competed with 14 other Cincinnati area schools to clinch one of 4 district spots.
The team came in 5th losing to Summit Country Day by 1 stroke. This would’ve been the first time Badin’s Girls’ Golf team had ever made it past Sectionals. Although the day wasn’t what they hoped for, the team's total came out to 430, almost a 20 stroke improvement from their first match there this year.
“The team as a whole did their absolute best. I love all the girls that played and I feel like we have all grown so much. We played very well and our scores were the lowest they’ve ever been. We went out on the course hoping to advance to districts and we all clearly wanted to win. I’m extremely proud of all these girls and what they have done to better their scores, and I couldn’t be happier with how we all did,” Rylie Burger, a junior, said.
The team this year has improved greatly, as they shot the best scores the team has seen in the past 8 years. The girls are becoming real competitors in the Southwest region.
“I think that the team has improved a lot since last year. The team was more focused, and they had better swings. We all have the motivation to play the best we can. I think this is the first team in awhile to have this kind of improvement,” Kate Dwyer, a senior, said.
Although the girls didn’t see the outcome they were hoping for this year, they are already preparing for next year with some high hopes. The girls hope to make their mark on the school and get their names up on their empty banner in the gym.
“We hope to make it to districts and state, and beat some good teams,” Kailynn Berger, a junior, said.
