After school, hardworking employees of Badin High School go to the student parking lot everyday to pick up trash. The trash can be found off of New London Road and everywhere around Badin, as kids just throw things out of their cars.
“The amount of trash picked up every week from around the school and in the student parking lot is outrageous,” Mr. Murrell said, head of maintenance at Badin High. “About three or four bags alone are used on parking lot trash and litter around The Hill and in the rocks. It’s too much.”
The problem was defined as “poor” as you can basically go anywhere outside and find trash around. If you scan the hallways you can find trash on the floor and in the bathrooms. What should we do about this problem?
“Recycle and throw things away,” Murrell said. “It isn’t hard to walk to a trash can or recycling bin, as they are all over the school. Polluting our environment isn’t the answer,” Murell said.
Griffin Meyer, Junior at Badin High, has a strong opinion on litter around our school. He believes it has “no place” in our society.
“I always walk to my car after school and see lots of trash and cups all over the parking spaces. Lots of JUUL pods with green caps are seen all over the lot, and I just can’t stand it anymore. Something needs to be done,” Meyer said.
The whole school needs to do a better job with trash. For now, the problem is somewhat being handled, but Griffin Meyer has a feeling it will escalate.
“I just don’t think the problem will get any better. The students aren’t serious about the problem,” Meyer said.
