November Working students

Working Students

Working as a student in high school can seem unfathomable or even unable to be done. How would you expect working high school students to get their homework done?

A survey sent out earlier this month showed that working as a student is not as hard or unimaginable as it may seem. Many students find a different way to balance school work and regular work.

“You need to work hard in school so that you don’t have to do too much homework outside of school,” senior Brook Wolterman said.

“It’s pretty easy, but you need to plan well,” said freshman Ethan Gibbons.

Most responses agreed with Gibbons and Wolterman. Planning ahead and studying hard will most definitely lead down to a successful path. However working and doing extracurriculars can be difficult for some students.

Often juggling their studies, jobs and expectations for sports are a big issue. Respondents said that participating in sports or clubs is difficult but not impossible.

The survey asked why students worked and what they need the money for. Most work to help family, pay for gas, or for their dates. As for why they worked I received many different responses.

“My parents make me work,” Junior Kaitlyn Covey said.

“I like to learn diligently and acquire new skills to help me in my future career(s). This is a great mindset to use when attacking any situation. It’s better to get the experience under your belt so you respond better in similar situations,” senior Jackson Bryan said.

Working as a student can seem hard, however, it is not impossible. The benefits of working now will help tremendously with different skills you will need in your lifetime. So don’t forget to keep a lookout on the Badin school website or around town for job openings.
