Swimming into the Season

As the helmets are put away, the cleats are stored in the closet, and the golf clubs are retired, the goggles and caps come out. The Swim team has officially started to prepare for the season.

The practice is every day after school from 3:15 - 4:45 with lifting 2 days a week. This year there 12 returning seniors, all in the hopes of making it to state.

“I’m looking forward to making my 500 time better because in the previous years I didn’t really focus on it until I realized I was really good,” informs Senior Evan Papania, “but now I’m going to put all my efforts into it this year.”

The 500 includes 20 lengths of the pool and it is a long distance that most people dread. Evan, however, plans on strengthening and shorting his time enough to make state.

Some people on the team don’t do it to be serious about the sport, they do it for the people.

“This swim team is where I’ve found my people, as in like my best friends, that I think I’ll keep forever,” says Junior Kenna Francis.

As the seasons go on, the same goals for the team will stand for all.

“The overall goal for the team is to produce state champions and to continue to get better and build a Swim community in this area,” replied Coach Muroski, Another goal would be to produce an aquatic center for the team.”

Only time will tell to see if the team can accomplish the goals at hand. With hard work and dedication, it is sure to be done.
