After many years of being separate, the French, Spanish, and the Origami Club are now joined together into the International Club. All students are welcome with an hola, bonjour, and paper mâché.

“We have been wanting to introduce this club for a while and it is still in progress. We have been thinking about this since last year we also started coming up with what would happen in the club last school year,” Mrs. Dennler said.

Though the club has four teachers in charge, Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Dennler, who teach all Spanish classes and Mr. Cole and Mrs. McAdams who teach all French classes, Mrs. Oliver thought of the idea for combining the three clubs.

“Mrs. Oliver mainly set up this club and took control of the planning. I would say it probably only took ten minutes but I really don’t know because that was before I got here,” Mr. Cole said.

The idea for one club with variety came from the growth of the three separate clubs and the need to introduce peers with the teachers they’ll never have the chance to meet if they don’t choose to take the select language.

“We wanted to add more countries not just French and Spanish speaking countries. If a student takes only French or Spanish then the other teacher may never know them and we wanted to build community in Badin,” Mrs. Dennler said.

Many students come up with ideas for clubs but never follow through, because they feel like it will fail, it may be a lot to deal with, or it won’t work with their schedules outside of school.

“I do not think that it is overwhelming to run a club I feel like it is very exciting. I love it because students get to lead a group and take control of the club. I always like to introduce the club but I like letting the students take control,” Mrs. Dennler said.

Although Mrs. Dennler feels confident about operating a new club, Mr. Cole has a different perspective of the club.

“I feel like clubs can be very overwhelming but for the most part I feel like we make clubs very relaxed and enjoyable for the students,” Cole said.

The aspirations for the future of the new club is to give students a type of respect for other cultures.

“I think this club will create a place where people can meet new people, experience new things and are introduced to a new culture that they have never experienced before,” Mr. Cole said.

The International club is going to be the newest club at Badin High School and is going to be a new place to see two cultures come together. We are very excited to see all aspects of the club interact with each other.
