Last wednesday, at the signing ceremony, Gabi Reising committed division one to Eastern Kentucky University to play soccer with the team.
“I’m excited, my dreams have finally come true. This is what I’ve wanted since 7th grade,” Reising said.
Reising has been on the Varsity soccer team here at Badin since her freshman year. Her actions have been noticed by coaches everywhere because she had multiple offers from many different schools.
Reising got offers from the University Of Cincinnati, Lourdes and her final choice, which was Eastern Kentucky University.
“University of Cinci (Cincinnati) was a choice, I was getting recruited by EKU because I like coach Matt a lot more. I didn’t like Lourdes because the division they were in,” Reising said.
Division one sports are not all glam and fun however, they involve a lot of hard work and getting recruited is the result from years of putting forth the effort both on and off the field.
One major part of committing to any college school is the process of getting noticed and getting to know the coaches.
“Fitness, staying very committed to the recruitment process, email as many coaches as possible, stay positive, even if soccer is a chore still find why you love it,” Reising said as advice to anyone who wants to follow in her footsteps someday.
While a major role was put on Reising in her highschool career but she could not have done it alone. Behind the scenes, Reising had many supporters, coaches and siblings, all pushing her to do her best.
“My coach, Todd Berkeley, jay kiley, Matt cosinuke, John volker, my dad and brother,” are just a few people who helped Reising along the way and they couldn’t go by unnoticed.
Going division one is very prestigious in the athletic world. Reising has more responsibility than ever to have a great attitude and maintain her great grades in school. “No suspension, no big trouble, no prison.”
