Seven returning starters provide good chances for the Rams this spring

Softball season is right around the corner and the Rams are out for revenge. After losing the league for the first time in eight years, the goal is to get the title back from a McNick team returning only two starters.

The Rams started a young team last year with three freshmen in the infield and a sophomore on the mound. With almost the same line up this year, the team is looking to improve and do big things this year.

Sophomore second basemen Kortney Cummins thinks the team is improving.

“We have grown a lot in the off season and have learned a lot from being a young team last year. I think we're in the running to do some big things this year,” Cummins said.

The team worked a lot in the off-season to accomplish their plans for the season. In the PFAC, the team practiced but most importantly became good friends and teammates.

Cummins said, “ The team really came together this winter. We’ve all become really good friends and I think that bond will help carry us through the season.”

With good team energy the Rams have a good foundation. The team is also focused on improving on their weaknesses and building on their strengths.

Cummins said, “Our defensive skills and speed around the bases are the strengths of our team, which are both very important to our victories. Emma’s pitching is also unmatched to anyone in the league.”

Cummins is referring to junior pitcher, Emma Kent. Kent is a three year varsity starter with some power on the mound. She faced some injuries last year that kept her off the mound, which led the Rams to struggle the last couple games.

With Kent back and healthy, the Rams are hoping to keep her that way throughout the season.

Cummins said, “We have a good outlook on the season and with a strong pitcher behind us we will accomplish great things.”
