Girls hoops captures fourth win in five games

Roll into Roger Bacon on Wednesday

By Ryan Kirkendall

December 9th, the Rams went on the road to Fenwick High School and stole a win from the Falcons 44-42 on a last second shot from Jada Pohlen. Saturday night, the Rams won much more decisively, 53-43, in front of a sizeable crowd on Fan Appreciation Night.

Lizzy Meyer, a junior who led the Rams with 13 points, knew the Falcons would be hungry for revenge as they invaded Mulchahey Gym.

Meyer said, “Going into the game, we knew they were going to play hard, and push the ball as much as possible like they did when we played them back in December.”

Meyer caught fire from beyond the 3-point-arc, but it took a couple shots to get going.

Meyer said, “I missed the first shot I took, but knew I would eventually find my rhythm. I was a little frustrated in the beginning because I was being face guarded, but after seeing that first three go in, I knew my shot was finally there, and I just kept shooting the open shots that were given to me.”

The junior sharpshooter said it meant a lot to come away with a victory on Fan Appreciation Night.

Meyer said, “It felt really good, especially when we were given the opportunity to win a league game against Fenwick in front of an energetic crowd. That win is going to give us the momentum that we need to come out and perform in Wednesday’s big conference game against Roger Bacon.”

The Rams face a tough test on Wednesday in Roger Bacon, who’s sitting at first place in the league with a conference record of 9-1.

The junior said, “We plan to practice hard these next two days, and make sure we know how to handle their key players like Sheppard, Craig, and Brenner.”

The Rams played the Spartans on December 11th, in which the Rams fell 51-37, but they’re ready for revenge on their home court.

Meyer said, “When we played them earlier this season at Roger Bacon, it came down to the 4th quarter, so we are ready to prove ourselves and get that win.”
