DECA Districts were this past Tuesday, and everybody participating in the event dressed up all classy and business-like for the trip. Left and right in the hallways, boys and girls alike were dressed up and ready to compete. Everyone was trying to get to state. Multiple students did just this, punching their ticket and heading up to Columbus to compete.
Jeff Dick, a junior at Badin High, got selected to go to state Tuesday. He was competing in the category for Start Up Business.
“I worked hard for this victory, and I knew I could do it. I have what it takes to go to nationals, and I really think I can get there. But I have to put in the work. Expect to see me down there, because Jeff Dick isn’t stopping,” Dick said.
Along with Jeff, Matt Rings, another junior from Badin High School, had these positive thoughts about his upcoming journey to state.
“I loved the atmosphere of the event, as I love the way they set everything up. We talked to DECA workers, had an oral test on a business plan, then took a large test on our category. I have put in a lot of work since the beginning of the year, and it all paid off. I’m excited to see what happens," Rings said.
Many other people like Matt and Jeff also competed. Not all came through and qualified, but the effort and studying that all the DECA students go through really gave them good business skills and a good experience.
All in all, Badin really represented this year at Districts. Many students have gone to nationals from Badin as the competition levels here are very healthy. Mr. McCabe and the whole faculty and staff hope to send more than ever before to nationals, which is the goal every year. More updates will come as soon as the events at Columbus get under way.
