For over 20 years, the Badin community has seen the History Club flourish under the direction of freshman history teacher Mr. Mignery.
“I just thought that there were other clubs and having an interest in history Badin could use a history club. Few schools have a history club, and the history club took off,” commented Mr. Mignery.
The history club visits various museums in the Hamilton area and has even taken trips out of state to The Battle of Gettysburg and the Ford's House in Detroit, Michigan.
“The Ford Museum in Detroit, Michigan is a massive museum where you can spend days looking at antiques. They have exhibits covering every type of subject. They got it all," Mignery said.
The history club is offered mostly to juniors and seniors, but sophomores are allowed to attend if Mr. Mignery and upperclassmen allow it. Sophomores are allowed to attend this year, and Mr. Mignery hopes this brings attendance up.
“It’s been that way for twenty two years becuase we do some traveling, and it means each students have to drive which a lot of sophomores don’t. It’s a nightmare to arrange,” Mr. Mignery insisted.
Many students enjoy the club and have attended it as juniors and seniors. Students see it as a way to expand their history knowledge while spending time with friends.
Senior Kaitlyn Wilms expressed, “I like learning about history and being in a club that does fun activities.”
During history club meetings, students enjoy food and snacks while talking about upcoming museum trips. Club members also enjoy having trivia quizzes on a variety of topics. At the end of the year, students who get the most points throughout the year on quizzes with receive special prizes.
Senior Evie Wultzabacher commented, “The Native American Tribes Quiz was really difficult, and I had to guess a lot.”
As the history club continues to hold meetings, students can’t wait to explore more museums and expand their love for history.
