The Badin Banner

What's next in 2020?

As winter break draws to a depressing end, and students and staff begin to flood the halls of school again, the last remnants of 2019 are left behind. 2020 has just begun and brings with it, a feeling of renewal and excitement for the upcoming year.

The Badin community has shared what they are looking forward to the most in the coming months. The new year brings many new things including schedules, warmer weather and sports. Badin offers a variety of different sport opportunities for those interested in playing.

For the freshmen, this may be a chance for them to engage in new sports, which is the case for Ruby Rosenblum. Rosenblum plays right and left field in softball and is interested in joining Badin’s team.

“It’s my favorite sport,” Rosenblum said.

Her goal for the new year is to get better at her position.

Sophomore Molly Anthony is also looking for the upcoming track and soccer seasons.

“I’m excited for track season and soccer season again because I get to hang out with my friends and have fun,” Anthony said.

Further down the road is the arrival of summer. Summer means no school and more time to spend with friends. For freshman Logan Ross, it means time to show animals at the Butler County Fair with his family.

“It’s something I always look forward to every year because it’s a great experience you know,” Ross said.

Summer is also a frequent time to explore new places and travel.

“I’m looking forward to backpacking because backpacking is fun and I’m going backpacking in New Mexico on my birthday,” Sophomore Brandon Burke shared.

Junior Tracy Fields is also looking forward to the end of junior year so she can go on a Summer in Solidarity trip.

“We’re going to be staying on a native reservation in South Dakota that was organized through Badin service. I think it will be fun since I went on the Guatemala trip and that was fun,” Fields said.

Going away for the summer is a tradition for many and for the current seniors, most will be going away for one of the biggest times of their lives; college. This is the case for Senior Sam Caballero who will be going to the University of Bowling Green in the fall to study architecture.

“It’s the correct distance away and it has a good program,” Caballero said.

Whether the new year means engaging in new activities, going on new adventures, or simply “teaching the sophomores more history” like Mr. Zimmerman, no one can estimate the amount of fun planned in the future.

With all these prospects in mind, 2020 is bound to get off to a great start for the Badin community.
