Joe Burrow and the Geaux Tigers

Just a kid from Athens, Ohio. Before Joe Burrow was a red shirt freshman at Ohio State University and a National Championship at LSU, Burrow played for three seasons as Athens High School’s starting quarterback. As a high school quarterback, Burrow threw for 670/977, 11,416 passing yards (278.4 yards per game), 157 passing touchdowns, and only 17 interceptions. He used his feet 370 times for a total of 2067 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Once Burrow got to Ohio State University, he decided to red shirt his freshman year, allowing him to practice for a year and be eligible for games for the next 4 years. Burrow played the next two years behind J.T. Barrett and only played in ten games completing a total of 29 passes on 39 attempts with 287 yards and two touchdowns.

Burrow decided to transfer to a star filled LSU team led by coach Ed Orgeron in the early part of 2018.

Before the season started, the odds were against the quarterback. His pre-season odds to raise the trophy in New York City was 200 to 1. Meaning if you bet $50 and he won, you would cash in $10,000. The pre-season odds for LSU to win the National Championship was 20-1 and the chance of them doing just that undefeated was 45-1.

At LSU, Burrow had a legendary career and one that for sure silenced the doubters. He threw for 621/906, 8565 yards, 76 touchdowns, including a record breaking 60 in the 2019-2020 season, and a small 11 interceptions. Burrow would go on to win the Heisman Trophy and the 2019-2020 National Championship where he threw for five touchdowns propelling LSU to its first championship since 2007.

So what now? Burrow was just an average quarterback before, but his whole world has changed after the legendary season.

In the early parts of the season, it was predicted that Chase Young, the defensive end from Ohio State would go number 1 to the worst team in the NFL. However, thanks to his performance there is no doubt that with the 1st pick in the 2020 NFL draft the Cincinnati Bengals will draft Joe Burrow.

Burrow will be drafted to battle and likely replace captain Andy Dalton who has struggled the past two years for the Bengals as they have gone 6-10 and 2-14. The Bengals, like every other team, recognizes the star in Burrow.

Now, will the Bengals be smart enough to draft him at the #1 position or will they try to win with another future star?
