After almost 2 months of no sports and no competition, sports fans can finally celebrate a small improvement.
On Tuesday May 12th, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey lifted the ban on no sports and are legally allowed to return on Saturday May 16th with no fans in attendance.
It is not clear yet how many of these leagues will move all of their teams into the state to play. However, it was announced that the MLB has made plans to start in early July with an 82 game schedule, 30 man roster, 14 playoff teams, and an equal pay split between owners and players.
The NBA recently sent out a questionnaire to all of its players asking whether they even wanted to continue the season or just wait for next year. There have been many announcements by players that they will not play unless fans are in attendance simply because that’s the reason they play.
It is unclear what will happen, but with many states slowly starting to reopen and the stay at home being lifted, it is clear that sports should be able to return without fans as soon as the league officials make plans.
Recently, on Saturday May 9th UFC 249 took place with no fans. This acted as a fuel to the fire of the return of professional sports.
