College Freshman Checklist
by Jake Graf
Many seniors are excited for graduation and are holding out hope for a fun summer. While your senior summer should be about fun there are a few things you should make sure you have taken care of before you step on campus to start your college career.
- Make sure your FAFSA is complete and all required documents are submitted. Check your email regularly from now until you begin classes to ensure FAFSA does not need you to verify information. If you need help or have questions, contact the financial aid office at your college as soon as possible. Don't wait until the last minute or you will be waiting in long lines.
- Be sure to attend your college orientation as soon as possible! Many schools are only doing this online right now. Signing up for early orientation dates ensures you have access to better class schedules and choices.
- Start preparing for college supply costs now. Find out if your major will require specific computers/programs, or if you'll need to purchase access to class specific programs. Most professors will have chosen class materials by the time you register for the class.
- Make sure you know who your advisor is and acquire their contact information. Have a question about majors, credits, dropping or changing a class, deadlines? You'll want to see your advisor right away.
Getting these items finished will help ensure a smooth transition into college and lower the potential amount of stress put on your shoulders once school begins.
