As the school year starts to close and high school students will soon be moving on to the summer, it's one last push to get those final assignments and tests finished. However, some seniors feel as though their time to kick back and relax has already come.
Many seniors are finding very little motivation to do any of their assigned school work. With less than a week left of school many graduating students are finding almost zero reason to continue to put effort into their assignments. I interviewed some anonymous seniors to give their thoughts on the matter.
“It just seems so silly to me that we have these assignments when we are so close to the end of the year," said one senior, “it all just kinda seems like busy work to me.”
For another graduating senior, lack of motivation is caused not just by the type of assignments seniors are getting but also the amount of work being put on them.
“I’ve gotten more work in these last three weeks of school than I ever did when I was in the middle of the school year," said a second senior, “the reason behind this is beyond me.”
One possible reason behind the large amount of work being given to seniors in the last few weeks of the school year could be due to the coronavirus pandemic. Teachers are giving students more work to make sure they are actively engaged in their education even while at home. However, this schooling at home brings a stronger lack of motivation than ever before.
“While I'm actually at school my main focus is to pay attention in class and do my work," said a third senior, “but, when I’m at home there are so many other more interesting things I could be doing to occupy my time besides my school work.”
Whether seniors have the motivation to do their assignments or not graduation is fast approaching.
