Abstract
The Wound stabilizer is a device that will change the process of closing deep laceration scars created during belt-lipectomy surgery. Belt lipectomy is a very large surgery, spanning the circumference of the body and taking off large portions of skin. Belt lipectomy is a cosmetic surgery that has large scarring and a high infection rate. The three-step device Laceration Repair & Co. has created will be composed of two different pieces. The first are two non-removable pieces. The first piece will be removed by the user when the wound has closed fully. The anchoring piece (1st piece) will be secured by a medical specialist at each side of the wound. Connecting the two pieces there will be reinforced wound tape that will not only keep the scar safe from infection, but be able to hold tension to hold the device together. This will also help keep the wound clean. Through interviews with mentors and the end user we have created this design to be easy to use for the doctor, as well as be comfortable and effective for the patient. As a group, we also ensured that the materials were compatible with the body and able to help heal the wound without causing adverse side effects. The materials used are expected to be of high quality while making sure we are competitive in the market, ensuring a profit will be possible when the device will be marketable to the end-user. This device is made to bypass conventional sutures removing needle-stick injuries and extra trauma to the skin. This will be sold to be made for belt lipectomy only currently. Quality control will be used to ensure the product meets its standards.
