Backstory
We have entered the cosmos, but at what cost? Despite humanity’s greatest achievement of interplanetary travel and civilization, space race after space race has fractured and divided us into four principal factions: the Federation, the Explorers, the Pirates, and the Rogues, all in constant conflict at the turn of every technological innovation, every newly discovered planet, every adopted interplanetary policy.
Originating from the governing entities of Earth’s space efforts, the Federation seeks to uphold order and morality among the spacefarers. Diplomacy is the mode of operation for the Federation, but with a formidable military backing that will not stop short of enforcing such relations.
The name of the Explorers encompasses the drive, grit, and ingenuity of the innovative that left Earth. In disagreement with the limitations imposed by the Federation, the Explorers became its own entity that strives to learn as much of the universe as the laws of physics permit. Although not in bad standing with the Federation, the schism of the two entities is reignited on one issue: is knowledge always for the greater good?
There will always be Pirates, those who are driven by the materialistic and pleasing and who do not identify exactly with all the virtues upheld by the Explorers or the Federation. Sure, Pirates are excellent spacefarers and discoverers when it comes to the prize, and if they agree on anything with the Federation, it's the importance of resources.
Much is unknown about the Rogues. Those who identify publicly with the Rogues are most probably not a part of the Rogues. What do they fight for? Anarchy? Disorder? Self-preservation? Nothing? Despite efforts among all three other factions to understand anything about the structure and trajectory of the Rogues, little to none is known about how organized the Rogues are.
Now, before an unexpecting team of Explorers lies a previously unacknowledged star system, populated with resource-rich and biogeodiverse planets. Following closely behind the Explorers’ sent efforts to the solar system are the Federation, whose undercover and surveying agents took prompt notice of the opportunity. Word of mouth, driven by greed, has allowed the Pirates to similarly sniff out and try their hand at this star system. And, by no known medium, the Rogues have also set their sights on this solar system.
Which facet of humanity will reign supreme?
