Backstory
War is erupting in peaceful Wintergreen Woods, reaching to the majestic realm of the Mahogany Mountains and the darkling depths of the Sapphire Shadow Springs, which together comprise the land of Mottledon. For generations, these lands have been tamed by the human civilization at the capital city citadel of Marble Manor, set on the waving yellow-white grasses of the Pearl Plains. However, in ancient times, the land was home to many vibrant and powerful creatures before they fled from the wreckage of the Old Fire and the humans came. Many of those ancient warrior human kings have by this day moved onto more fertile lands, and the single city of Marble Manor and the surrounding villages are all that remains of what was once an expansive empire. There are whispers among the humans of something prowling in the wild lands. Legend has it that these creatures have been displaced from their newer homes where they dwelt in exile, and it is rumored that they wish to return and reclaim their ancestral territory. Now, if their single stronghold is taken, the humans will be forced into exile themselves, and this land will pass into the last great kingdom of the Forgotten Folk.

There is another problem still. There are many creatures who wish to return to Mottledon, and three of them are particularly domineering, unwilling to permit another faction’s rule. Unfortunately, none of these factions are literate, and none have a written record of their territorial history. All believe the entire land was once their own. Not only have they declared war on the capital, but also upon each other, excepting rare alliances among them to overtake the humans or a particularly troublesome opponent. The lofty hippocampi dwelt primarily in the springs that are interspersed throughout Mottledon, where they are virtually impossible to overtake, except by the very strong or very crafty. The wily nine-tailed foxes especially crave their habitat in the Wintergreen Woods, where they are at their strongest, using the cover of the forest to intelligently defend their home. The wyverns’ ancestors were long ago dragons whose fiery breath was stolen away by the phoenixes of the north, but they remain dangerous foes, with their arrow-tipped tails and massive claws and fierce tempers. They long for the snow-crested splendor that are the peaks of the Mahogany Mountains, where few enemies can slip through their talons.

Slip into the skin of these majestic creatures and help them navigate the terrors of war to take back their rightful places as the leaders of this magical homeland. May the beastiest player win!
