The Brazilian Government has realised that it cannot solve the housing problems in favelas of cities like Rio by destroying them.
There would be huge protests and riots from those that live there primarily. Remember Rochina has a population of around 250 000 people, too many people to evict by force.
Even if you were to manage it, where would these people go? They would simply set up a new favela in a another part of the city.
The Local Government in Rio de Janerio can't just evict people but want to make the Favelas a better place to live. Look at the tasks below to find out some of the ways they are managing to do this.
