Have a good overview of this topic
Be able to describe what a Semi-Arid area is
Given a location example of where we find one
In arid climates, land degradation can lead to desertification.
Land degradation is important because soil supports life.

Collect a world map and highlight where we find different Semi-Arid locations
A semi-arid area is defined by its key features:
Precipitation range of between 250-600mm
The region supports short or scrubby vegetation with grasses and shrubs
Rainfall patterns are erratic and variable
Rains fall infrequently as heavy showers and are lost to runoff (Hydrosphere unit)
A high rate of evapotranspiration (Hydrosphere unit)
A majority of the population of semi-arid lands depend on agriculture and pastoralism for subsistence.
Land degradation is an issue observed locally but is observed across the world. It is a regional or national problem, especially in arid areas.
Soil is very slow to form, it can take between 500-1000 years for one inch of topsoil to form.
