Dear nex+Gen Community.
The end-of-semester crunch is upon us. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we will have just 12 school days before final exams. Now is the perfect time to ensure your student is caught up and doing their very best in all of their classes.
As we head into the holiday, I want to wish you and your family a joyous, safe, and restful Thanksgiving break. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parent-teacher conferences will be held on November 24th and 25th. This will be an asynchronous day. No in-person classes will be held. All classes will have an agenda posted on Echo with assignments. Your student’s advisor will reach out to you about scheduling a parent-teacher conference.
Thanksgiving Break: This year, Thanksgiving break will be from November 26th- November 30th. Classes will resume on Monday, December 1st.
Student Transfers to nex+Gen Academy: Know a Student Interested in Attending nex+Gen Academy? The admissions process has changed slightly this year. Families must now apply for a transfer through the ParentVue system, and the admissions lottery will be held on December 1st. After December 1st, students will be accepted on a rolling basis as space allows.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Granone at nicole.granone@aps.edu.
Anyone who would like more information or would like to schedule a tour can simply fill out this form: Nex+Gen Academy Interest Form.
Math Concept Quizzes: As you all hopefully know by this time, retaking Concept Quizzes is the most impactful way to improve your grade in math classes at nex+Gen. Concept Quiz retakes will be accepted no later than the following dates for each of our math classes: Algebra 1, Geometry, PreCalculus, Calculus: Wednesday, 12/10, in after-school math tutoring Algebra 2: Monday, 12/15, at the Cram Jam
Nex+Gen Academy Exams: Final exams will be held on Wednesday, December 17, and Thursday, December 18.
Friday, December 19, is an exam make-up day; no classes will be held.
If your student needs to make up an exam, they must schedule an appointment directly with their teacher.
eCademy Exams
e-Cademy final exams are scheduled for Tuesday, December 16 and Wednesday, December 17. These exams are in-person and should be arranged with the e-Cademy teacher. Nex+Gen students usually take e-Cademy exams on the Del Norte High School campus.
If you have any questions, please contact our counselor, Ms. Hastings, at hastings_c@aps.edu.
Driver's Education: Is your student 15 or older and ready to earn their driver’s permit?
Great news! nex+Gen offers FREE Driver’s Education, which can save your family $300–$500. Even better—students who complete the course earn one elective credit toward graduation.
If you would like your student to take advantage of this opportunity next semester, please email Ms. Floyd at floyd_a@aps.edu, or have your student sign up on the sheet posted outside Ms. Floyd’s office (Room 110).
Winter Break: Winter break will run from December 20th to January 5th. The first day of classes for the second semester will be January 6th. If you have any concerns about class schedules, please contact Ms. Hastings as soon as possible.
We’d like to give a huge shout-out to our nex+Gen Ambassadors for the 2025–26 school year! These students have been hard at work promoting our school and helping recruit the nex+Gen Class of 2030.
Our ambassadors have proudly represented nex+Gen at the APS School Choice Fair, given tours to visiting middle school groups, and even visited several middle schools across Albuquerque to share what makes nex+Gen such a special place to learn and grow.
Thank you, Ambassadors, for your leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication. You are helping shape the future of our school and showing the community what makes nex+Gen shine!
Please join the nex+Gen Digital Film Class to celebrate the production of their horror films this year! The event will take place on Thursday, December 11 at 6pm in the Cyberhall at nex+Gen. You will have a chance to meet the teams of filmmakers and give feedback on their work!

nex+Gen Academy seniors in Environmental Science & Statistics (ESS) just wrapped up their 2025 Valle de Oro projects! In this project, small groups of seniors each studied a different aspect of the environment (including plants, soils, birds, arthropods, water quality, aquatic macroinvertebrates, and rodents) at the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge. Through their project they collected data that helps to monitor the effectiveness of their ongoing habitat restoration. nex+Gen Academy has been partnered with the refuge since 2013, so our program has several long-term datasets students contribute to each year. This year ESS students chose to share their learning and their findings with 7th grade students from Jefferson Middle School. The event was a success!

The Holidays can be stressful. A 2023 survey by the American Psychological Association found that 89% of U.S. adults feel stressed during the holiday season, with 41% reporting higher stress levels compared to other times of the year.
The New Mexico Department of Health recommends the following ways to take care of yourself this holiday season (Mrs. Hastings has included some ideas next to the recommendations):
Acknowledge your feelings. All feelings are important. Manage them by taking a walk, reading, exercising, and even crying.
Avoid unhealthy coping skills. Build an emotional toolbox that includes anything that decreases stress like talking to a close family member, connecting with a trusted friend, and playing board games with your family.
Stick to a budget. It is okay not to overspend. Be transparent with family and friends and bake them some cookies or give them a Christmas card, letting them know how much you appreciate them.
Find support. We all need someone to connect with.
Connect with the world around you. Go on a hike, take a walk and breathe in the fresh air, meditate outdoors, or go to a park and enjoy nature.
Take care of yourself. Go to the gym, talk to a trusted adult, read a good book, enjoy a day off, or treat yourself to a massage.
Don't abandon healthy habits. Eat healthy foods, sleep well, rest.
Stay active. Go for a long walk, dance in the living room, walk around the house, do some jumping jacks, and stretch.
