Career Fair: Annual Nex+Gen Career Fair: Monday, December 9th, 2024 from 11 to noonvan
Would you like to share your career experiences with Nex+Gen students? Within our unique learning model, we work hard to keep our projects relevant and to provide authentic opportunities for our students to think about issues outside of the classroom.
The career fair, held here at Nex+Gen, is an important annual initiative, a collaborative effort in which parents, facilitators, students, alumni, and other community members work together to meet our goal of preparing Nex+Gen students for the road ahead. We want to provide opportunities for Nex+Gen students to investigate careers, explore the education and training to achieve their goals, and practice important life skills. Our career fair is an important part of this effort.
Are you available on Monday, December 9th from 11 am to noon? If so, please fill out this google form. If you have any questions about the 2024 Career Fair, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Kelly McCloskey-Romero at kelly.mccloskey-romero@aps.edu.
Students had a great time at this year's annual Homecoming Dance. Here are a few pictures.
Since 2018, Nex+Gen students have been promoting literacy across the street at Governor Bent Elementary School. We are proud to be working with Ms. Pino’s class again this year. Three different sophomore advisories (Ms. McCloskey-Romero, Mr Schlee’s, and Ms. Ximena’s) walked over to read with the kindergarteners. It is wonderful to see Nex+Gen students serving as role models for students learning to read.
This past week community partners from the Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority (ABCWUA) and Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) came in to speak to seniors in Environmental Science & Statistics. Students learned about where their water comes from, the strategies that the water authority is using to manage and conserve water, and ways they can make a difference. Students also learned about where their energy comes from, the potential careers available in energy, and then also received energy innovation kits to take home to improve their household energy and water efficiency. Thank you ABCWUA and PNM!
This past month seniors learned about degrees, programs, and campus life at both UNM and NM State University. They also got their questions answered and were given the opportunity to apply with the application fee waived. We encourage seniors to apply to UNM by December 1 to ensure their eligibility for scholarships. Students must have applied and be admitted by Dec 1st to NMSU to be eligible for scholarships.
In Concentric Democracy, the groups of the United States and Mexican Governments, Indigenous Communities, Texans, and Landowners are in the final stages of renegotiating the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (originally negotiated in 1848 to end the Mexican-American War). Students researched the historical context, including each group’s power, weaknesses, needs, wants, and allies, in order to prepare for the negotiations. Groups had to make deals with each team and are now in the process of rewriting the treaty based on those negotiations.
Nex+Gen Art students have just finished their portraits and have started shared journals. Here are some self portraits.
