Dear nex+Gen Community,
We have a lot happening in the next few weeks. Have a great weekend and see all the important announcements below:
Vernal Holiday April 18th. All APS schools are closed
Quality of Education Survey: We want to hear from you! Your feedback is valuable to us. Please take a few moments to fill out this year's Quality of Education survey. Click here: Quality of Ed Survey
Staff Appreciation: Our Staff Appreciation Day will be Thursday, May 1st. This is your chance to show appreciation for and celebrate the efforts of Nex+Gen facilitators, administration, and cafeteria staff for all they do for Nex+Gen students each day. Please sign up to bring something on this document or text Kelly McCloskey-Romero at 505 304 8564. Thank you for helping us make our Nex+Gen staff feel special.
Clothing Drive: Through April 24th there is a clothing drive for Mckinney-Vento, please only bring new or lightly used clothes! Clothing items like underwear, bras, or socks must be brand new and still in packaging! None of the clothes should have holes, stains or any sort of damage. Clothes should be brought to the school. Clothes can either be left at the front desk (if a parent is dropping them off) or a student can put them in the blue boxes in the humanities classrooms. There will be a student showcase on the 24th of April so feel free to bring in your clothes during that event!
Building our Career Closet: To help us with our college and career readiness goals and support students who may not have access to professional clothing in their wardrobe, we would like to create a career closet where students can borrow professional clothing for presentations, events, and job interviews. We are requesting families who can donate a few gently used items. We are looking for business casual attire, including:
Khakis
Dark slacks
Cardigans
Collared shirts (button-down or polos)
Blouses that cover shoulders (no low cut)
Knee length (or longer) skirts or dresses
Please bring any donations to the front desk. We appreciate your help as we help prepare our students for these important events and milestones!
Summer School - Credit Recovery: APS will be offering credit recovery and transfer make-up credits this summer through in-person summer school and eCademy. The three in-person sites are La Cueva HS, Valley HS, and Rio Grande HS, with one term in June and one term in July. Registration begins on March 31, so please reach out to Mrs. Headley to talk about credit recovery and to get registered as soon as possible. It is important to remember that this year the fees have been added back to summer school, to both in-person and eCademy classes. It is $250.00 for a half credit unless you qualify for the reduced price of $62.50. Please call Ms. Headley with any questions at NexGen, ex 43256.
On-Line Registration: The online registration window for the 2025-2026 school year is now open. Parents should log on to ParentVUE and complete the 2025-2026 School Year Online Registration. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Granone at (505)878-6400
Testing for Juniors: The NM-ASR will take place through physics classes starting the week of April 7th.
.
Spring Student Showcase: Please join us for our school-wide student showcase of April 24th from 6:00pm-7:30pm in Cyber Hall. Learn about our Food for Thought community project, senior capstone projects, and sample projects from each class.
Donations needed: Nex+Gen Academy is in urgent need of Kleenex. With Spring approaching, our supply is running low. Your donations of Kleenex would be greatly appreciated.
Important Information for Seniors: See Below
ESS Students Shine at the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP) Annual Crawford Symposium
On Friday, Environmental Science & Statistics (ESS) students presented their Arthropod project (from the Valle de Oro Project) to a mixed audience of about 100 people. The Crawford Symposium is a gathering of all of BEMP’s community partners—from K-12 to graduate students—and a celebration of the fantastic science they’ve supported students in doing. We appreciate BEMP's ongoing support of our Valle de Oro Project and are proud of our seniors for presenting their work to an authentic audience.

Nex+Gen Academy Engineering students competed in New Mexico Tech's Miner Mayhem. This Battle Bot tournament included students from around the state competing in different categories with different size and weight bots. nex+Gen's Engineering students competed in the MESA Outlaw category. Abbie Koenigsfeld and Gage Babb placed second overall, and Joshua White placed first overall. Congratulations to all Engineering students for doing an amazing job. We are proud of you!
The Digital Film Production and Creative Writing classes joined forces to create the silent film. Not limited to any particular genre, each team had to go through the pre-production, production, and post-production processes. The final result? The 2025 Nex+Gen Silent Film Festival!
