Homecoming Dance: nex+Gen will hold its annual Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 21st from 8:00pm-11:00pm.Ticketing information to come.
Nex+Gen Access Gate: The access gate that we share with Del Norte High School will be open daily from 7:15am to 8:45am. The gate will remain closed for the remainder of the day. If you are picking up your student early please call the school at (505) 878-6400 so you can be let into the San Mateo Vehicle gate or north student parking lot gate.
School Safety Drills: We have completed most safety drills for the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. Tomorrow we will do our last with a school evacuation drill. After the drill students will be given reunification cards to bring home. When an incident requires our staff and students to relocate off site, we have Reunification procedures that allow for a safe and organized way of getting students back to their families. To increase efficiency in this process, our district has worked to develop Reunification cards that are unique to each student on your campus. The cards have student names, bar codes and instructions on the back for families to easily utilize if they have to pick up their student(s) during a Reunification (each family will receive two cards per student). Here is a video for more information regarding this new process: Student Evacuation & Reunification Protocols
FAFSA: The 2025/2026 FASFA form will not be out until December 1st.
I want to make you all aware of some important college-related events coming up.
UNM is holding their Fall Preview days on 9/12, 10/19 and 11/9. These give a tour of the campus and information about admissions, scholarships and UNM’s academic programs. You can also see on-campus housing. These are all free to attend, but they do require registration. You can see more information and link to the registration here https://admissions.unm.edu/fallpreview/
New Mexico State University is having their “Aggie Experience” on 10/12/24, 2/17/25 and 3/22/25. It is very similar to the UNM Fall Preview and the application fee is waived if you apply to NMSU during this event. You can register online for this event here https://aggie-experience.nmsu.edu/
Also, the deadline for many scholarships (other than the lottery scholarship) for UNM and NMSU is December 1. They usually require you to be fully admitted to the school by then. So it is a good idea to visit and apply before that date!
Also there is a regional college fair at the Albuquerque Convention Center on 9/22. This is an easy way to find information about a variety of schools. You can find out more information and register here https://www.rmacac.org/albuquerque
I know it feels intimidating to start thinking about college already, but deadlines are coming up! So attending one of these events is a great way to get more information and start making decisions. If you have any questions, call the counseling office at 505-878-6400 ex. 43256.
The new school year is underway. Last week we welcomed the class of 2028 with a pep rally. Griffins showed their spirit with games, cheering, and the freshman tunnel. Welcome back!!!
Our first project this year is “The Characteristics Of Life.” The driving question: How do we know if something is alive?
As part of our investigation, students searched for signs of life outside, and investigated mystery soil samples, possibly from planets other than our own in the lab. In order to prove something is alive, students had to provide evidence and reasoning based on their observations and the scientific criteria all living organisms share.
We like to start our math classes with engaging, hands-on tasks to help students get back into the groove of doing problem-based math together! Here are some pictures of our Algebra 2 students tackling the 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe problem, using many resources to try to model the problem and generalize patterns to larger cases.
