Book Drive: Our National Honor Society is holding a book drive during the month of January! They are looking for new or used books, preferably for younger children. They are mainly looking for books in other languages or baby board books. NHS has wanted to spread the message that kids in Albuquerque are in dire need of books, with some households unable to have access to literature themselves. Read-To-Me, the foundation NHS is partnering with, makes it their mission for kids to be able to read at no cost. Please help them with this mission today! There will be boxes located in Cyber Hall if you wish to donate. We hope to see as many donations as possible! Thank you!
Senior Shout-out letters: Hello, Nex+Gen! This semester, we are planning something special for our seniors! They're called senior shout-out letters, and everyone can participate! There will be a wall of envelopes posted by the front desk, and it is there for students or anyone else who wants to leave a fun and respectful message to our seniors as a gift for graduation! Let's show how much we love and appreciate our seniors! Go, Griffins!
Student Transfers to nex+Gen Academy: Know a Student Interested in Attending nex+Gen Academy? The admissions process has changed slightly this year. Families must now apply for a transfer through the ParentVue system, and the admissions lottery will be held on December 1st. Nex+ Gen Academy represented Argentina’s interests at the State Model United Nations competition while helping write resolutions and draft bills to solve global issues. Our own Mr. Goodman played the role of Secretary General to organize the entire event, which hosted almost five hundred students during the three-day competition. Students participated in discussions ranging from Security Council veto power, plastics in the oceans, human trafficking, to international law regarding surrogacy. Students from all over the state came to practice their negotiating skills as they represented countries that are members of the United Nations. Nex+ Gen’s Kai Schwartz De Rossi and Josh Trujillo helped sponsor legislation to solve some of these global issues. Congratulations to them both for their dedicated work this semester.
Students collect data to create a mathematical model to represent and make predictions about a physical phenomenon. This group is exploring how distance changes when the acceleration created by the fan remains constant. This is part of their final project.
Nex+Gen junior Robbie Yatsattie makes some last minute adjustments before the autonomous portion of his final exam in robotics.

New Year’s Resolutions are typically broken within a few months of every new year. In fact, according to Psychology Today, 80-90% of resolutions are broken by February of the year they are made. There are various reasons that are cited, some of which are setting unrealistic expectations, lacking good planning skills, and not staying motivated.
For our mental health, instead of making resolutions, let us develop a plan using the 7 C’s. They are as follows:
Connection - Build supportive relationships.
Coping - Develop strategies to manage stress.
Compassion - Be kind to ourselves and to others.
Confidence - Believe in ourselves and let us surround ourselves with those who believe in us.
Character - Take responsibility for our actions.
Competence - Find things that make us feel capable of achieving our goals.
Clarity - Have a clear understanding of our goals.
How do the 7 C’s help us?
They build resilience. Learning from every experience helps us become more flexible in our thinking.
They help us manage stress. When we erase the negative thoughts from our mind and replace them with positive thoughts, we learn to believe in ourselves, we become more confident in ourselves, and we develop a healthy perspective of the world.
They enhance growth. These skills give us the mindset that we are not the problem and other people are not the problem. The problems are the problems, so let us solve them, building a support system with others who are willing to help us solve the problems. Let us not create problems. Let us solve them, and it is okay to walk away from problem makers. This is a healthy boundary.
Something we can love about the 7 C’s is that we can use them as a foundation for the rest of our lives, and we can practice them over time. We do not have to master them all at once. The first relationship we have is with ourselves, and using the 7 C’s are a lifetime achievement, for our mental health, and they help us develop healthy relationships, which also take a lifetime to build. “It is not about speed, distance, or perfection. It is about direction” (David Powlison)..
