Mr. Schlee stopped by to collect the first harvest from the nex+Gen Community Garden! Our students planted the garden this spring, and it's already producing. And yes... pumpkins in June!
APS Communications has just completed this short video about nex+Gen Academy that truly captures the essence of who we are as a school community.
A special thank you to our outstanding student representatives, Rayden Elks, Fiona VH Jensen, and Brooklynn Rogers, for sharing their experiences and representing nex+Gen so well. I would also like to thank Ms. Ornelas for her support and dedication, and Dr. Gabriella Blakey for helping make this project a reality.
Meet our Student Leadership Team for 26-27
Hi everyone. My name is Fiona Vh Jensen. I'm going into my senior year of high school. One of the main reasons I joined student government was helping to plan the different events. A lot of time you'll see me at events making sure they're running properly, there for the set and take down but not necessarily in the mix with people enjoying the event. Though this is kind of weird I find the most joy seeing other people having fun in something I took part in. A fun fact about me is I’m a life guard and swim coach which means that I'm either coming from the pool or going to a pool whenever you see me.
My name is Brooklynn Rogers and I’m in grade 11. I chose StuCO because I feel like all of my life I’ve been an extrovert, and I’ve also loved leading. And I’m able to accomplish both of those thing in StuCO, another thing I like about this class/community is that we are always involved some how, whether it’s setting up, or making committees, or just doing fun activities like Senior Send-off, and I really like that because even if sometimes we don’t get recognition it still feels really good that we were able to help. I also really enjoy this class/community because I really like that I’m able to develop new relationships that I’ve never had before, whether it’s people in my grade or people in different grades. Fun Fact about me, I really like peaches and ranch, I enjoy most fruits with ranch.
My name is Amy Klump, and I’m a junior at Nex+Gen. I chose student government because I wanted the opportunity to help serve our school by planning and setting up for events and being a part of the decisions to continue to keep our school environment positive. One fun fact about me is that I compete in the mock trial competition with our school.
Hi everyone, my name is Elise Allison I chose student government because I believe our community is the backbone of NexGen. I want to help represent the voices of our student body within student government while also sharing the voice and values of our school with the outside community. One fun fact about me is that I have a pet rat named van Gogh who only has one ear. He was a gift from Mr. Schlee.
Hi everyone my name is Lily Allison. This next year I'm going to be a sophomore. I chose student government as my elective because going into high school I really wanted to become a leader and an advocate of sorts. I was in student government in middle school but we didn’t really do much. I knew I wanted to do more, I wanted to do things like homecomings and field days. When I came to freshman orientation I noticed a sign up sheet for student government, without hesitation I signed up. The year began and I was enrolled in digital film, not student government.. I then had to have an awkward conversation with Ms. Brant about rather being in student government than her class. After we got that sorted out I promptly joined student government! I learned about central districts and I fell in love, then we went to a fall conference and it was amazing, I knew I wanted to go to the state. Back in the classroom however, I ABSOLUTELY fell in love, I got to set up for homecoming, lead committees, make proposals, and I even got to lead a talent show. I was always busy and I loved being busy in this way. I always knew that I wanted to become an officer and it was always a goal of mine, so when the time of elections came, of course I signed up. Our previous historian was so amazing, and I know that this year the historian may be needed to take on a bigger role for the yearbook, and I’m ready for that. Some fun facts about me would be: chocolate makes me sneeze! I had 4 bunnies growing up! I’ve never eaten a McDonald’s cheeseburger and I’ve been vegetarian most of my life!
My name is Kloie. I am in 10th grade and I wanted to be treasurer to be sure that while Nex+gen is growing and adapting we are still able to plan and keep track of our expenses and plan for events that we want to plan and keep as the Nex+gen experience. I want to allow the freshmen to have the same Nex+ gen experience that alumni have had. For a fun fact about me is I don’t like bacon or pork in general .
