Dear nex+Gen community,
The new school year is fast approaching. Here are the latest updates:
New Student Jump Start: All students new to nex+Gen are welcome to join us from 9:00am-11:00am for a new student jumpstart. Meet your facilitators, meet some classmates, see your classrooms, get your ID picture taken, and eat some pizza.
School Nurse: Our school nurse, Naomi Brown, will be on campus on Tuesday, August 6th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Feel free to stop by if you would like to meet with the Nurse or if you have questions. Ms. Brown can be reached at Naomi.Brown@aps.edu.
Scheduling Form for New Students: If your student is new to nex+Gen, please fill out this form if you have not already done so. Electives Form Incoming Students
Cell Phones: Since the end of the pandemic we have seen an increase in the distracting influence of student electronic devices in our classrooms. To address this growing problem, we have updated our cell phone policies and procedures. Here are our school-wide classroom expectations for cell phones.
Cell phones should be silenced and in backpacks, unless explicitly given facilitator permission to use them.
Personal use of cell phones is only allowed during lunchtime and passing periods.
In case of emergency, you may contact your student by calling the front desk.
Cell phones may be confiscated by teachers. The phone will be locked in a safe in the administrative office and returned only to a parent/legal guardian.
Chrombook Distribution: All students at nex+Gen Academy will be issued a Chromebook on August 13th. At no time are personal devices of ANY kind to be attached to or utilize the school wifi system, nor are personal “hotspots” allowed.
Student IDs: All students will be issued school ID within the first few days of school. ID Pictures for new students will be taken by Ms. Granone on Tuesday, August 6th during Jump start and on the first day of school. This ID must be worn at all times and also serves as a key to the front door and the gate near student parking. Please report a lost ID card to Ms. Granane within 24 hours so it can be deactivated.
Nex+Gen Access Gate: The access gate that we share with Del Norte High School will be open daily from 7:15am to 8:45am. The gate will remain closed for the remainder of the day. Visitors arriving after 8:45am are encouraged to use the student parking lot to access the building.
Register Your Student On ParentVue: All students must complete an APS electronic registration. A student registration must be completed to view student schedules on ParentVue. If you are having difficulty don't hesitate to reach out to Nicole Granone at nicole.granone@aps.edu or 878-6400 Follow this link for instructions: APS Registration Instructions
Nex+Gen Public Calendar: As part of our transition to the APS domain, we have a new Nex+Gen Public Calendar. The new calendar is visible below. Here is the link to the new calendar: Nex+Gen Public Calendar
Student Parking Permit: Student and visitor parking is in the north lot. This lot may be accessed by turning east off of San Mateo at the first intersection north of the light at San Mateo Lane and following the road past the apartments. Students wishing to park there must purchase a parking permit for $30.00. Please fill out this form to purchase a permit: Parking Permit Form
Map to Student Parking and Drop-Off Loop: You will find the map to our student parking lot and drop-off loop below.
Student Schedules: Will be available on StudentVue/ParentVue on July 26th. Just log onto your account and select schedules using the menu on the left. It is important to remember that a student registration must be completed before student schedules can be seen on ParentVue.
Supply Lists: Nex+Gen Academy does not publish a standard supply list. Most student work is done and submitted electronically. Nevertheless, it is helpful to have a few items such as a backpack for the laptop, pens, pencils, paper, and notebooks to start out the school year. Of course, supply lists are just suggestions.
Course Drop Deadline: The last day to drop a course without the risk of receiving a withdrawal failing (WF) is Friday, August 23rd.
Transitioning to APS email: For the 2024-2025 school year nex+Gen Academy is transitioning from the nexgenacademy.com domain to the aps.edu domain. This means that all school emails will go through APS email. Here is a staff listing with contact information: Staff Contact List
"0" Hour Classes: Nex+Gen will offer two courses during "0" hour from 7:35 am to 8:30 am. These are MESA and Defensive Driving. "0" hour will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. No "0" hour classes will be held on Wednesdays. If you are interested in taking Defensive Driving or MESA "0" hour, please e-mail me at lynch_d@aps.edu
Student ID Pictures: Student ID pictures will be taken during new student jumpstart on Tuesday, August 6th from 9:00am-11:00am.
First Day of School: The first day of classes for the 2024-2025 school year will be Wednesday, August 7th.

I would like to give a warm welcome to Bethany Headley. Ms. Headley will be our new Guidance Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year. She is a native New Mexican, graduate of APS and has attended ¾ of New Mexico’s major universities. She has worked for APS as a science teacher, substitute teacher and counselor at the high school and mid-high levels. She takes care of one husband, one son, one daughter, two dogs, eight chickens, and one turtle. She likes reading, k-dramas, the color turquoise and is bribeable with almond croissants.
Again, welcome Ms. Headley!

Medical & Health
If you have indicated that your student has a chronic health condition that may require medical support while at school, please provide documentation from your student’s primary healthcare provider, such as Action Plans or Doctor’s Orders.
All Medical forms (including medication forms) can be found on the APS website: https://www.aps.edu/nursing/nursing-forms
* Remember: New Medical Forms are required each school year for chronic conditions like asthma, allergies, seizures, and diabetes.
Medications
If your child takes a prescription medication at school, even just occasionally, it is required that we have a signed provider order for each school year.
Over-the-counter medications also require a signed consent form from a parent/guardian, and in some cases from the physician as well.
Any medications brought to the Health Office must be in their original container, unopened, and cannot be expired.
More information regarding medication administration at school can be found in the APS Procedural Directives.
Immunizations
The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) requires all students entering the 12th grade to submit proof of 2 Meningococcal vaccines if they have not done so already. Please note, the DOH requires the 2nd Meningococcal dose when the student is 16 years of age, or older.
Immunization Exemptions must be renewed each school year.
Immunization guidelines and Exemption forms can be found on the APS website: https://www.aps.edu/nursing/immunization-info-for-families
