Forest Schools

What our Forest School Provision is all about ...

The underpinning philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through an innovative, long term, educational approach to outdoor play and learning in a woodland environment.

Many Forest School activities enhance the creative curriculum - an approach to teaching and learning designed to support children's natural curiosity.

Sessions are designed around the needs of different groups and around a theme. Many areas of the National Curriculum are covered as part of the Forest School programme. However, the provision is very much ‘learner led’ in line with the ethos of the provision. The activities that often begin sessions provide a stimulus for many more activities back in the classroom.

All pupils across the academy from Nursery to Y6 engage in the Forest School provision led by our qualified Forest School Team members.

Weekly updates are captured in the Teaching and learning section of the website, showing the growing respect, awareness and understanding our pupils have of their local, wider and global community.

We continue to build upon the excellent adoption of Forest Schools as our PPA provision.

Through the practical learning opportunities, we aim to:

  • Further develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the nature around them, fostering a sense of care and respect for all things and a recognition of their impact on the wider world.

  • Provide opportunities for pupils to enhance their leadership and team working skills

  • Embed effective communication in real life contexts

  • Develop resilience, confidence and independence

  • Provide opportunities for children to apply their core skills of reading, writing, maths along with learning across the curriculum

  • Meet the Academy aims for 2017-18
